Vice Adm. Scott Stearney, who oversaw U.S. naval forces in the Middle East, was found dead Saturday in his residence in Bahrain, officials said. Defense officials told CBS News they are calling it an “apparent suicide.”

Stearney was the commander of the U.S. Navy’s Bahrain-based 5th Fleet. Rear Adm. Paul Schlise, the deputy commander of the 5th Fleet, has assumed command, the Navy said in a statement.

“This is devastating news for the Stearney family, for the team at 5th Fleet, and for the entire U.S. Navy,” Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson said. “Scott Stearney was a decorated Naval warrior. He was a devoted husband and father, and he was a good friend to all.”

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Bahraini Ministry of Interior are investigating Stearney’s death, the Navy said, but foul play is not suspected.

Stearney, a native of Chicago, joined the Navy in 1982 after graduating from the University of Notre Dame, according to his official biography. He became an aviator in 1984 and flew the FA-18 Hornet in several fighter squadrons and logged more than 4,500 “mishap free” hours of flight.

I agree. Shame if you know secrets that involves intelligence, the 1st thing these secret organizations does is off you if you’re about to come out with the truth. Smh😥

  2. There is foul play in my opinion he was a decorated war hero served for decades flew airplanes special missions etc… If he was going to kill himself he would have done it years ago! I guess the Navy has to be careful what they say at this point but I’m sure they are aware it was not suicide that’s why they are still looking into his death. How sad for the family. Flying like he did I’m sure he knew about the deep state and aliens maybe even antartica maybe he saw something he really wasn’t suppose to see at all and they killed him! I just don’t believe a man like that took his life.

    1. My heart goes out to his family and close friends. I’m sorry to halve to say it but our government is not what it used to be at all, and that includes the military. I was brought up in the 50s and 60s and we used to look up to our government and military; we could always be sure that we were hearing the truth when we heard anything from them. Since then things have changed dramatically. Most people just laugh at what they hear from them now. They seem to have taken the place of the mob from the 1920s and 30s. They have every single thing that all US citizens have said or written, like this. What happened to our freedoms?
